Gastronomy Journey|Day 4
Final Morning in Paris at Moxy
▶ DAY 2–3|Barcelona Days of Wonder and Flavor
Our last morning in Paris began with a buffet breakfast at Moxy Paris.
To our delight, it was far more satisfying than expected—an impressive variety of breads, cold cuts, fresh fruit, cheeses, and egg dishes.
The American-style vibe and playful interior added a cheerful boost to our morning as we prepared for departure.
After breakfast, we checked out and hopped into an Uber to Charles de Gaulle Airport.
Even in the early hours, traffic on the way from central Paris was a bit congested, so it’s best to give yourself extra time for the ride.
【Travel Light: Storing Large Luggage at the Airport】
For our next leg to Barcelona, we flew with the low-cost carrier Vueling Airlines.
Given their strict baggage rules and our plans to transfer to our accommodation after arrival, we decided to temporarily store our large luggage—namely a wedding dress and tuxedo—at the airport with Bagages du Monde.
Their service hours are from 7 AM to 9 PM, and prices vary based on the size and duration of storage—usually around €10–30 per day.
We opted for the “special baggage” (check-in clothes) category and used the “D” rate for under 24 hours.
Dropping off the luggage made the rest of the travel day so much easier and more comfortable.
【Off to Barcelona from Terminal 3 with Vueling】
We made our way to Terminal 3 of Charles de Gaulle Airport, dedicated to low-cost carriers.
The terminal is straightforward and easy to navigate. After checking the departure board, we proceeded to the gate for VY8249 bound for Barcelona, which began boarding right on schedule.
Though the Paris sky was overcast, our spirits were already soaring toward our next destination.
We boarded our Airbus A321, and off we went—Spain, here we come!
Arrival in Barcelona: Welcome to a Culinary Capital
Just about 1.5 hours after takeoff, we landed in Barcelona.
As we began our descent, we caught stunning views of the Mediterranean coastline and lush mountain ranges from the window—instantly lifting our excitement.
Inside the terminal, one of the first things to catch our eye was a local delicacy: a specialty ham shop, ENRIQUE TOMAS, known for its jamón ibérico.
The shimmering glass cases filled with cured ham confirmed—we were truly in one of the great food cities of the world.
We then hopped on the Aerobús, the shuttle bus directly connected to the airport.
The clearly marked signs outside the terminal made it easy to find, even for first-time visitors.
As we gazed out at the unfolding cityscape from the window, our Spanish adventure officially began.
Where We’re Staying in Barcelona: AC Hotel Barcelona Forum (Upgraded to Junior Suite!)
We arrived at our hotel for the Barcelona stay: the AC Hotel Barcelona Forum, part of the Marriott family.
Located in the heart of the Forum area, it’s perfectly positioned near shopping centers and the sea, offering excellent accessibility.
At check-in, we got a pleasant surprise: an upgrade to a Junior Suite!
The spacious room featured a living area and offered an open, panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea from the window.
Its blend of stylish design and smart functionality reflected Marriott’s signature quality.
It was the perfect setting to relax after a day of travel—and an exciting way to kick off our time in Barcelona. The journey continues in comfort and style.

Off to Explore Right After Check-In
After settling into our Junior Suite at the hotel and taking a brief rest, we unpacked and set out right away to explore the city.
Our first destination: none other than Barcelona’s most iconic landmark, the Sagrada Família.
We hopped on a nearby tram, blending in with the locals and watching the city unfold outside the window—an experience that in itself is part of the joy of travel.
As the outline of the Sagrada Família gradually came into view through the tram window, excitement naturally built.
We were finally about to meet Gaudí’s magnificent, unfinished masterpiece.
Fueling Up Before Visiting Sagrada Família
Before heading into the basilica, we stopped by a casual bar right in front of the Sagrada Família.
Run by a friendly Asian couple, this unpretentious spot delivered great flavor at a reasonable price.
We sampled a variety of classic tapas: croquettes, Spanish tortilla, jamón, and pan con tomate.
A light but satisfying lunch—perfect for a quick stop before sightseeing.
Finally, the Sagrada Família
And then, one of the major highlights of this trip—the Sagrada Família.
Thanks to booking tickets in advance, we were able to enter smoothly.
Security checks at the entrance felt like an airport, and then we stepped inside.
The awe-inspiring exterior was just the beginning—what truly took our breath away was the moment we entered.
Soaring columns, cascading light from stained glass windows, and an architectural grandeur that felt utterly otherworldly.
Rather than a mere building, it felt like a physical manifestation of prayer—solemn, sacred, and transcendent.
A long-anticipated vision finally unfolding before our eyes.
Inside the Sagrada Família: A Glimpse into Gaudí’s World
Once inside, we were immediately struck by the forest-like canopy created by the towering, branching columns.
It felt like stepping into a magical woodland sanctuary.
Gaudí’s stained glass windows are meticulously designed to catch and reflect light throughout the day.
In the morning, the cathedral glows with cool blues and greens; in the afternoon, it shifts to warm oranges and reds—a visual journey through time.
Every structural and decorative detail was both mathematically precise and deeply organic, as if plucked from the pages of a fantasy novel.
Yet, it was all real. Gaudí’s vision—a fusion of nature, faith, art, and geometry—was brought to life in a way that deeply moved us.
To stand inside this space, long imagined and now real, was an unforgettable emotional experience.
We left with a quiet sense of wonder that only true architectural genius can evoke.

Dinner on the First Night: “Tapas 24”
That evening, we met up for dinner at Tapas 24, a popular tapas bar in the heart of Barcelona.
We were joined by a young Japanese chef currently training in Spain, passionately immersing himself in local food culture—his dedication was inspiring.
Tapas 24 offers a playful yet refined take on traditional Spanish tapas, led by renowned Barcelona chef Carles Abellan.
With a casual atmosphere and a pop-art style sign at the entrance, the place is equally beloved by locals and tourists.
A Local-Style Selection, Ordered by a Fluent Guide
Thanks to our dinner companion’s fluent Spanish, we got a local-style lineup of dishes—simple, understated, and full of flavor.
Knowing we had a second stop ahead, we kept things light with:
-
Spanish potato salad topped with olives and grissini
-
Huevos estrellados with perfectly runny yolk
-
Classic jamón ibérico
-
And the signature “Bikini” sandwich
Surrounded by the hum of conversation and clinking glasses, it felt like we’d stepped seamlessly into local life.
With our guide by our side, we felt surprisingly at home—even in a bustling foreign city.
Second Stop: A Hidden Gem Called “almarge”
After dinner, we took the metro and wandered through local streets to find our next destination: almarge.
Tucked away in a stylish alley, it was so discreet we nearly missed it—but stepping inside revealed a warm, design-forward space.
Their culinary approach was a refined, modern take on regional Spanish cuisine, with every dish showcasing the ingredients’ natural flavors.
The presence of locals gave it a sense of authenticity and trust.
Savoring each plate slowly, we found ourselves reconnecting with the depth and richness of Spain’s food culture.

An Unforgettable Night and a Beautiful Connection
At almarge, guided by our chef friend, we were welcomed warmly by the owners—a kind couple whose hospitality and beautifully plated dishes left a deep impression.
Not only was the food outstanding, but even the wine pairings were spot-on.
Their gentle demeanor filled the entire space with ease and comfort.
Under the starry sky that night, I felt a quiet realization: this is what it means to connect through food.
A night in Barcelona that words can’t quite capture, but one that will remain etched in memory as a true highlight of the journey.
Gastronomy Journey|Day 5
Barcelona Day 2|A Morning That Begins with Casa Milà
Originally, we had planned to enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel.
But with our reserved time slot for Casa Milà (La Pedrera) quickly approaching, we had to skip it with some regret.
Tickets here are time-specific, and even arriving a few minutes late can mean denied entry—so we rushed, barely making it in time. Thankfully, we got in, and a wave of relief followed.
Even without breakfast, the excitement of immersing ourselves in Gaudí’s world was more than enough to keep our spirits high.
Entering Gaudí’s Universe|Casa Milà (La Pedrera)
Once inside, Casa Milà revealed itself to be even more fascinating than expected.
Its undulating stone façade and sculptural rooftop chimneys are works of art in themselves.
From the rooftop, you get a sweeping view of Barcelona—including a distant glimpse of the Sagrada Família—a truly breathtaking perspective.
In the attic, exhibitions of models and design plans showcase Gaudí’s meticulous attention to structural detail.
Preserved living quarters also offer a peek into what daily life looked like in this architectural marvel over a century ago.
Throughout the entire building, you’ll find Gaudí’s signature rejection of straight lines—flowing organic forms that redefine how we think about residential space.
More than just architecture, it’s a habitable work of art—an extraordinary place to experience.
A Long-Awaited Breakfast at Casa Milà’s Café
After the visit, we stopped by the café inside Casa Milà.
Looking up, the wavy ceiling echoed the building’s fluid forms, bathing the space in soft morning light and gentle chatter.
Having missed breakfast earlier, this was finally a moment to pause and reset.
I ordered a toasted sandwich filled with salmon and vegetables, served on perfectly crisped bread—a visually pleasing and satisfying plate.
Alongside, a warm latte topped with delicate latte art.
As I sipped and looked out at the peaceful setting, it felt like the Barcelona day had finally begun.
A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience at Disfrutar
After the morning visit to Casa Milà, we strolled through the city toward the main event of this trip: lunch at Disfrutar.
Crowned No.1 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024, Disfrutar has become known as the culinary destination.
Getting a reservation is notoriously difficult, which made our lucky booking all the more exciting—and a little nerve-wracking—as we stepped through its doors.
The colorful checkered façade instantly radiates playfulness. Inside, the modern, minimal interior feels unexpectedly warm and welcoming.

Back at the Hotel: Soaking in the Afterglow of the World’s Best
Our nearly four-hour lunch at Disfrutar was nothing short of a masterpiece—a sensory journey through flavor, texture, aroma, and surprise.
Returning to the hotel, we collapsed into a short rest, the experience still dancing vividly in our minds.
Even as I drifted into a nap, dishes from the meal floated gently through my thoughts—like memories from a beautiful dream.
Dinner at Gresca: A Perfect Evening Reset
Refreshed from our nap, we headed out for dinner at Gresca, one of Barcelona’s most talked-about restaurants.
Laid-back in atmosphere but precise in its cuisine, Gresca is beloved by locals and food lovers alike.
With its open kitchen and warm lighting, the space feels relaxed yet intentional.
From appetizers to main courses, every plate showcased the essence of its ingredients while offering surprising twists—a delightful contrast to the theatricality of Disfrutar.
It was a sophisticated yet easygoing dining experience, perfect for rounding out the day.

A Nightcap at an Authentic Bar Near Gresca
To wind down the evening, we walked over to Tandem Cocktail Bar, just a short distance from Gresca.
Tucked away on a quiet street, this bar exuded a calm, intimate charm.
The bottled-lined bar and red stools set the scene for a classic cocktail experience.
From perfectly balanced Negronis to fruity signatures and refreshing Mojitos, every drink was made with care—quietly complementing our conversation.
It was the ideal way to enjoy Barcelona by night—with elegance, ease, and a touch of grown-up glamour.
The Final Night in Barcelona
And just like that, it was our last night in Barcelona.
From the window of our Junior Suite, the city glowed in warm shades of orange, stretching endlessly into the night.
As we sat quietly, we reflected on the day’s adventures and all the memories this trip had brought—
The people we met, the unforgettable meals, the atmosphere of the streets, the fleeting encounters—
Each a vivid impression now etched into our hearts.
With a silent wish to one day return to this incredible city, the night gently came to a close.
Gastronomy Journey|Day 6
Final Day in Barcelona|Breakfast at the Hotel
Our last day in Barcelona began with a relaxed breakfast at AC Hotel Barcelona Forum.
Bathed in morning light streaming through the windows, we savored a peaceful start in the hotel’s open and airy dining space.
The buffet featured an array of delights: jamón ibérico, smoked salmon, Spanish tortilla, cheeses, warm stewed beans, and silky eggs—every bite was delicious.
Sampling a little of everything is one of the quiet joys of a travel morning buffet.
Beyond the glass, the city stretched out before us—
a chance to soak in the energy of Barcelona once more, calmly and with gratitude.
It was a morning spent savoring the last moments, wrapped in the soft glow of reflection.
Off to Plaça de Catalunya After Check-Out
After breakfast, we packed up and checked out.
But we weren’t ready to say goodbye just yet—we had time for one last stroll through the city.
A short bus ride took us to the heart of Barcelona: Plaça de Catalunya.
Bustling with life even on a weekday morning, the square was alive with locals, tourists, and movement.
The grand fountains, monuments, and fluttering pigeons created a scene that felt symbolic—
a true “ending point” that made us quietly whisper to ourselves, “I’ll be back someday.”
A Taste of Barcelona to Take Home|Exploring La Boqueria Market
We stored our luggage in lockers and walked to La Boqueria Market, a favorite among both tourists and locals.
Inside the vibrant arcade, we were greeted by a colorful explosion of fresh fruit, cheeses, olives, spices, and more—a true food wonderland.
We picked up souvenirs like olive oil and smoked paprika, true flavors of Spain.
Choosing gifts while wandering from stall to stall was a joy in itself.
To save room for our lunch reservation, we kept snacking light: a single baguette sandwich filled with jamón ibérico.
Sliced fresh at a specialty ham stand, the flavor and saltiness were exquisite—undeniably the real thing.
Hard to resist going back for more, but even one bite was deeply satisfying.
A Sweet Pause at Bubo|Chocolate for the Soul
At Bubo, a chic boutique filled with elegant sweets, we found ourselves entranced by the stunning displays.
A friendly staff member offered a piece of chocolate to try.
As it melted in our mouths, releasing a rich wave of cacao aroma, we were genuinely moved.
When I mentioned we were visiting from Japan, he responded warmly: “I love Japan!”
We ended up buying a few for ourselves and as souvenirs.
Their colorful, stylish packaging made them the perfect keepsake to remember Barcelona by—
a moment of indulgence both delicious and heartfelt.
A Memorable Last Lunch at ULTRAMARINOS MARIN
We hopped in an Uber and headed to our final restaurant: ULTRAMARINOS MARIN, a place making waves on social media and food blogs.
With a classic Spanish bar-style exterior and a refined yet welcoming interior, the restaurant struck the perfect balance.
Locals gathered on the terrace, sipping wine and sharing food under the midday sun—
a scene so inviting we were instantly drawn in.
The food, the atmosphere, the light—it all came together as a fitting finale to our time in Barcelona.

By now, the square felt familiar—almost like a friend.
As we pulled away, we reflected on our rich, vibrant time in Barcelona.
The ride to the airport took about 35 minutes, and with it came a growing sense of anticipation—
What would we discover next?
Into the Sky, Toward Paris
Leaving Barcelona behind, we took to the skies once again.
From the window, the setting sun streaked the sky in orange, painting the horizon in quiet elegance.
Our destination: Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
The view from the airplane, tranquil and luminous, felt like a gentle embrace for the journey’s end.
As vivid as our Barcelona days had been, this quiet moment in flight reminded us that every adventure has a pause—
a stillness where the soul catches up with all it’s experienced.
A Final Night in Paris|An Unexpected Detour
We landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport in the evening and headed straight to our hotel:
Residence Inn Paris Charles de Gaulle Central Airport.
Originally, the plan was to stay put—no more city, just rest before our flight to Taiwan the next morning.
But then I remembered something we hadn’t yet done—something I just couldn’t leave Paris without seeing.
—The Eiffel Tower’s Champagne Sparkle.
It was our first time in Paris—there was no way I could go home without witnessing it.
On impulse, we jumped on a bus into the city, rushing toward one last Parisian dream.
And then, there it was: the Eiffel Tower, shining just as beautifully as ever.
Right on cue with the top of the hour, the tower burst into glittering light—
the magical Champagne Flash.
A quiet thrill and a deep sense of fulfillment washed over me.
It was the perfect, poetic ending to this incredible journey.
